Optional Modules 3-9 (15 ECTS)

OM 7 is obligatory for students with OM 2 (Research Track). Students with OM 1 (Applied Track) cannot choose OM 7.

Only one of the two modules OM 8 and OM 9 can be chosen.

The Munich School of Management organises the classes for OM 8 "General Managerial Economics". According to our Examination Regulations only specific classes can be integrated in OM 8.

The Department of Statistics and the Department of Psychology organise the classes for OM 9 "Interdisciplinary Subject". According to our Examination Regulations only specific classes can be integrated in OM 9.

OM 3: Economic Theory (15 ECTS)

Content

This module deals with modern economic theory. It covers topics that are of specific importance for independent scientific work.

Learning objectives

The aim is to bring students close to the current research frontier in economic theory and to prepare them for independent research in this field.

OM 4: Applied Economic Analysis and Empirical Economics (15 ECTS)

Content

This module covers the analysis of economic problems with theoretical and empirical methods at an advanced level. 

Learning objectives

The aim is to enable students to use these theoretical and empirical methods for all kinds of economic problems.

OM 5: Public Economics (15 ECTS)

Content

This module deepens students’ knowledge in specific areas of public sector economics and introduces students to the current state of research in this field.

Learning objectives

Students are familiarized with current research in public economics and learn to apply modern theoretical and empirical methods to independently analyze selected problems in public sector economics.

OM 6: Economic Research (15 ECTS)

Content

This module presents research fields in economics (e.g., game theory, behavioral economics, taxation) at an advanced level. It is intended to form the basis for writing a master thesis in one of these fields.

Learning objectives

The aim is to enable students to read research articles and to master research methods in modern economics. The course equips students with the necessary prerequisites for being able to analyze economic questions using topical theory and empirical methods.

OM 7: Economic Research & Public Economics (15 ECTS)

obligatory for students taking OM2 (Research Track), cannot be taken by students taking OM1 (Applied Track)

Content

This module introduces research oriented students to the current state of knowledge in the area of public sector economics.

Learning objectives

Students should learn to apply advanced theoretical and empirical methods to current issues of public sector economics.

OM 8: General Managerial Economics (15 ECTS)

Content

Lectures and courses in this module deal with the advanced analysis of specific topics in the field of accounting and taxation as well as corporate finance. In-depth, theoretical methods are taught to enable students to evaluate and optimize investment, financial and risk management activities carried out within companies.

Furthermore, this module discusses marketing activities from a market-based point of view with respect to consumers' needs and market demands. Emphasis is put on innovation in various business areas and on the role of information and communication.

Learning objectives

Students will extend and deepen their knowledge of theoretical concepts of accounting and its practically applicable approaches. In addition to acquiring sound, comprehensive knowledge of how to solve practical financial problems a further objective is for the students to acquire detailed knowledge of relevant quantitative approaches.

The module also provides specific knowledge in the fields of Marketing and Strategy as well as theoretical foundations in the thematic areas of innovation, information and communication. These are applied to decision-making situations in the respective areas.

OM 9: Interdisciplinary Subject (15 ECTS)

Content

In this module students can extend their expertise in economics to neighbouring fields. At the moment students can choose courses in the area of statistics and/or psychology. Within this module the attended courses don't have to be from the same subject, but please note that the credits acquired must add up to a total of 15 ECTS points.

Learning objectives

Economic issues are put into an interdisciplinary context. Basic expertise in neighbouring fields is developed.
