Admission

The number of students we can admit to the Master program is not limited. Therefore, every suitable applicant will be placed in the program. Decision about suitability follows the statute as described below.

The admission procedure for the Master Program in Economics is based on a statute approved by the Senate of LMU Munich, which states the following rules:

The basic entry requirement for the Master Program in Economics is the completion of the Bachelor’s Program in Economics at LMU Munich with at least the grade 2.00.

The following exceptions are possible:

  • Applicants who completed their studies in Economics at LMU with a grade worse than 2.00 but at least 2.50 will be invited to take a written test.
  • Applicants who have graduated in Economics at another university can be admitted into the Master Program as long as it can be established that this qualification, in terms of content and methods, is equivalent to the Bachelor’s degree in Economics at LMU with at least the grade 2.00. A selection committee decides whether your qualification can be recognised as being equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Economics at LMU Munich on the basis of the documents you have provided with your application.

A selection committee decides whether your qualification can be recognised as being equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Economics at LMU Munich on the basis of the documents you have provided with your application.
  • If the equivalence is unclear but the selection committee does regard the qualification or the subject of study, in terms of content and methods, as sufficiently close to Economics, and an applicant completed his/her studies with a grade at least 2.50 the applicant will be invited to take a written test.

In addition to their qualification in Economics applicants must be able to prove that they have sufficient command of the English language (please refer to the list of requirements).
