1. Deadlines
Credit transfers (from either a different department at the LMU or from a different university) must be requested before the end of the first semester after the credits were earned.
In case you spent a year abroad, then you have until the end of your first semester back at the LMU to request a credit transfer.
2. Requesting Credits to be Transferred from a Semester Abroad in Advance
- The transfer of credits from courses to be taken while abroad can be reviewed in advance.
- Please send an email including your matriculation number and a course list with syllabi to isc@econ.lmu.de. Please also indicate for each individual course which module you would like it transferred to.
- Due to capacity/manpower restrictions, you may only request 6 (for a semester abroad) or 12 (for a year abroad) courses to be reviewed for transfer in advance.
- Due to capacity/manpower restrictions of max. 6 courses per semester abroad, it is recommended that requests for an advance review of transfer credits be submitted only after receiving a place to study. The final course schedule at the respective university should also be certain before you submit a transfer request. Course lists from multiple universities can unfortunately not be reviewed in advance.
- Please also be aware during the course selection process, that at some universities exchange students may only take certain courses. There may also be particular admissions requirements for some courses. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you clarify with the host university in advance which courses you can register for.
- A counselling appointment through the ISC (Dr. Neuhoff) is highly recommended to help you integrate your time abroad into your studies and figure out how to get courses transferred.
3. ERASMUS+ Learning Agreement
- If you are studying abroad with ERASMUS+: please enter the courses verified for an advance credit transfer in your Learning Agreement, get it signed from the host university and then send it to us electronically by scanning it and sending it via email. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to consult the ISC.
- Please note that the Learning Agreement can only be signed if all courses have been verified for transfer in advance, and if it has already been signed by the host university.
- Should changes occur to your course schedule during your time abroad, please enter these in the designated sections of the Learning Agreement and get it signed again by the host university. To add new/additional courses you will also need to provide some form of course information (e.g. a syllabus).
- Please be aware that changes to the course offering (e.g. cancelled courses, schedule changes) must be verified by the host institution.
- Important: For ERASMUS+, only courses in the Learning Agreement can be transferred! Deviations from the courses agreed upon in the Learning Agreement will not be considered for transfer.
- The credit transfer can be requested after return to the LMU as described in point 5.
- For the master’s students in the Department of Economics, part III of the Learning Agreement isn’t necessary during consultation with the International Office. As proof of your completed credits you must only provide a printout of a transcript of records listing the courses you wish to transfer.
4. LMU Internal Credit Transfer (e.g. in case of a double major or after changing majors within the LMU)
- To request the transfer of credits either completed within the scope of a double major at the LMU, or which you would like transferred after changing majors (within the LMU), please submit the completed form for an internal credit transfer (in German) (PDF 109 KB) to the Examination Office (ISC).
- For internal credit transfers, submission of forms and documents for an external credit transfer is not required!
- Be sure to heed the deadlines for credit transfers.
5. Credit Transfers from an External Institution (e.g. in case of university transfer or after study abroad)
The following documents are required:
- Credit Transfer Request Form (PDF 93 KB)
Form Guidelines:
- Please fill out electronically.
- Enter the semester in the format "WS 20xx/20yy" or "SoSe 20xx"
- Be sure to include the docent’s/professor’s highest academic degree (e.g. PhD, Dr. med., etc.)

- Of the transcripts of records which you will submit, please ensure that one is the original (the original document will of course be returned to you later).
- Syllabus and literature list for completed credits etc. (Important: Documents will only be accepted in German or English. Documents in other languages must be submitted with a translation. Please only submit copies! Documents will be destroyed after the transfer process has been completed!)
- If the transfer of the completed course credits was already reviewed in advance (e.g. as described in section 3), the syllabi must not be submitted again.
- Benötigen Sie einen Semesteranrechnungsbescheid zur Bewerbung für einen Studienplatz, geben Sie dies bitte auf dem Antragsformular entsprechend an.
- Important: For ERAMSUS+ only courses which are listed in the Learning Agreement can be transferred. The transfer of courses not listed in the Learning Agreement is not possible!
Please submit the completed documents to the Economics Examination Office (ISC).
Important: The credit transfer process is completed through the ISC, regardless of the types of credits you want transferred! It is not required that you directly contact department chairs or faculties!
